(Rome, NY) The Rome Indians snapped a four-game losing streak Tuesday night, with an 8-3 victory over the Mohawk Valley Red Legs at DeLutis Field.

Trinity University standout Kyle Mihalski paced the Indians offense with two hits, a double and two RBI.

Jeremy O’Neill and Kevin Ryan also added doubles for Rome.

Meanwhile Dan Sullivan earned the win on the mound in his first start of the season. The George Mason product allowed one earned run on two hits over six innings.

The Indians jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings, due largely in part to Mohawk Valley miscues.

Two errors in the bottom of the first inning led to three Rome runs.

Then in the fourth, three walks by Red Legs’ starter Bill Zenk loaded the bases for Mihalski, who delivered a bases clearing double and gave Rome a 5-0 lead. Mihalski would score to make it 6-0 on a Mike Weckenman RBI groundout.

Acuff added a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Ryan had a RBI double in the eighth to round out the Rome scoring.

The game was very similar to Rome’s first win last Friday at Watertown. In that game, the Indians’ were helped greatly by Wizards’ mistakes en route to building a sizable early lead. In this game the Indians continued their torrid pace on the base paths. The Indians stole four more bases to up their total to 19 through six games.

However, the team is only hitting .178.

The Indians are off until Friday night when they host the Schenectady Mohawks at 7PM. It will be Rome Savings Bank night at Larry DeLutis Field.

The Rome Indians are a non-for-profit organization and are the defending NYCBL champions. Founded in 1978, the NYCBL is a summer league for premier college baseball players and is sponsored by the NCAA and Major League Baseball.

All Indian home games are played at Larry DeLutis Field at the Griffiss Business & Technology Park. For ticket information call (315)796-4051 or click here.
