(Utica-Rome, NY) Things are starting to look up for the Indians.

Rome swept a doubleheader from previously undefeated Wellsville, before 36 fans Saturday afternoon at Larry DeLutis Field. After earning their first shutout of the season with an 8-0 win over Wellsville in the opener, the Indians held on for a 6-4 win in the nightcap.

In game two, the Indians jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Nitros frantically clawed their way back. Wellsville scored three runs in the sixth to make it 6-3. Then in the seventh, Wellsville added another run and had the bases loaded with two outs.

With the tying run at second base, Tony Schmid hit a soft liner that seemed destined for a base hit to leftfield. However, Indian shortstop Matt Devins made a leaping catch to preserve the victory.

In the opener, Kyle Mihalski went 2-4 and Dan Sullivan allowed only three hits over seven innings as the Indians cruised to their first shutout win since July 27, 2001 in Game One of the NYCBL finals.
