RBAI Background/Mission

The Rome Baseball Association, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization formed in 1996 for the purpose of:

  • Exploring the feasibility of building a baseball complex for the youth of the City of Rome and its surrounding communities.
  • Executing a plan for construction and subsequent maintenance of this facility.
  • Educating the youth of our community to help foster and develop the skills of these young baseball players.

The RBAI's formation was precipitated by the simultaneous occurrence of seemingly two unrelated events, the closing of Griffiss Air Force Base and the lack of a quality baseball facility for the youth of Rome above the little league level.

Our design calls for the construction of two baseball fields to Class A minor league specifications, one of which will be lighted. The park will be used by the Rome community for various levels of baseball, principally seven high school and adult teams including the NCAA/Rome Indians, Rome Catholic HS, Rome Free Academy, American Legion, Archi Cianfrocco League and the MV Adult League.

Progress

Our Baseball Complex has drawn much attention over the last few years. Currently, the main field, which is lighted, plays host to over (15) different organizations. From April to August there are over 100 games played at our facility. To follow are some of the teams, leagues, and events that we play host to.

  • Home field of the Rome Indians Collegiate Baseball Team.
  • Summer youth baseball camps run.
  • Home of the Rome Catholic High School Baseball Team.
  • Rome Free Academy High School Baseball teams.
  • Approved as a permanent site for the NYS High School Baseball State Finals. (These games regularly draw over 1000 spectators in one day and bring in families and teams to our community from all over the state.)
  • Past host of the Oneida County Legion baseball championship game.
  • Currently used by various Oneida County Legion teams.
  • Hosts the City of Rome Diamond Skills Competition that draws over 200 kids.
  • Hosts the District 9 Little League opening ceremonies.
  • Utilized by various youth baseball leagues from around the county.
  • Mohawk Valley Adult League all-star, playoff and championship games.
  • 2001 host site of the Baseball portion of the NYS Empire State Games.

Our facility also has a broad-based community participation and residual impact.

  • Corporate participation in our billboard sponsorship program, which utilizes the proceeds to maintain our facility.
  • Our Concession Stand, run by the Ft. Stanwix elementary school PTG. The funds raised are in anticipation of support for varied student programs with in the school.
  • Awareness and visitation to the B-52 Bomber and Museum display by families and members of teams utilizing our facility. The ability to learn the history behind and the freedoms gained from the sacrifices those men and women made for our country.

Finally there is the increased quality of life for both youth and adults in our community. A point of pride with in the community resulting from a well designed; fully functional and living park at the entrance of the Griffiss Business and Technology Park that would could last for many generations.
